Theatreworks Productions of Toronto was incorporated as a charitable not for profit theatrical producing company in 1984 to produce new Canadian works and premieres of works by international playwrights. During it's development, Theatreworks created an ensemble of actors with a vibrant, unique performance style and encouraged development in all aspects of theatrical production - directors, writers, designers, stage managers etc.
Currently, Theatreworks continues its development and mentoring journey by recruiting new members and appointing Adrian Proszowski as Co-Artistic Director.
In its history, Theatreworks has mentored other Toronto theatre companies as well; the acclaimed Toronto independent theatre company - Volcano on two occasions, and it also extended its resources to produce a workshop of Nevis Mountain Due with an esteemed ensemble of all black talent some of whom afterwards, went on to create Obsidian Theatre.
